I think August's impression of Beecher Prep is that of a big city: nobody is super nice, but they're not out to get him either. For example, it says "Mrs. Garcia's eyes dropped for a second" we discussed that in class, what that meant. About other student's thoughts of August: it also says that when August asked what homeroom was, "No, it's just your group," explained Charlotte, ignoring Julian's smirk" smirking is, again, not super nice, but I don't think Julian is out to get August. Therefore, August knows he isn't gong to be pampered... or murdered.

I agree and disagree. I think he has made new friends but they did at the end, Jack did stare at him, but it was a good expirience, I think.

Emma, I agree with you but I also agree with Noah. I agree with Noah because yes I think August does think of it like a big city and not everyone is nice. But I also agree with you because August has made some friends who seem very nice. Frankly I think your both right!

Yes I agree Noah about most of it but I have a different opinion about Julian. I think he is out to get August.

Talia, I disagree that Julian is out to get August. In the beginning it seems like he is but by the end I think Julian is just curious about August.

In the book Wonder, August takes a tour of his future school. He has many thoughts about the school and the people who went there. That's not to say that no one had any thoughts about him. Let us start by talking about Mr. Tushman. His parents told him that Mr. Tushman was a princable but Agust could not get over the fact that his name was funny. When he finally met him he found that he fist off did not want the planned tour. Also, while in his office Auggie said and I quote, " My mom and dad had a teacher named Mrs. Butt," and Mr. Tushman decided that it was worse than his name. THey bonded over that and I think that is a good thing. All in all I think Auggie likes Mr. Tushman. Soon after he meets three yound kids, two boys and one girl. Though, like before doesn't want to meet any one. When they entered the room they didn't exactly look at him. They were very friendly on the tour. One of them thinks that he does not want any thing is and another thinks he can not talk.Julian and Charlotte and jack are the names of the kind kids who showed him around.

(sorry did not finish) Julian stared at Auggie but I do not think he is going to be mean. All in all, I think the students that he met liked him and he liked the tour.

I disagree. Julian didn't stare, he smirked when August asked about homework, right?

In the book Wonder, I think August feels not the most existed but not despite to escape the situation. I think this because when August first meets Mrs. G the text states ‘Then that thing happened that I’ve seen happen a million times before. When I looked up at her, Mrs. Garcia’s eyes dropped for a second.’ This implies that he was use to but not ok with the eye dropping. Then later on in the text August thinks ‘I guess I liked Mrs. Garcia…’ This means that he was at good terms with at least two staff members, Mr. Tushman and Mrs. Garcia. Also, Julian and Jack avert their eyes but Charlotte just welcomed him and did not flinch away. Latter on Charlotte defends him by saying ‘I'm sure he knows what an eraser is.’ When she said that, it clarified to me that August would not be alone when school started. Therefore I think he is safe with his share of "friends" and judgmental people but so far no enemies or bullies.

I think August has mixed feelings about his new school, Breecher Prep. One of which I think is the people. I think he thinks they're nice but they seem to scilently judge him because when they were all meeting him they're eyes all dropped immediately once they saw his face. Which August is used to because he's different (with looks) and people tend to drop their eyes when they look at him.

For sure! Auggue may be a little hesitant but I believe he will find his confidence either through Charlotte or Jack as one is audacious and the other is calm & calculated.

I think that his first impression of his new school is that it is very large and he could get lost in it. I think this because in the text it says that Mr. T or whatever asks the students to take him up to the third level. That is a very big school and to someone who is unfamiliar to it could easily get lost. Therefor that means that he might get lost.

I believe August is now more comfortable now but then again nervous. He met Charlotte who was nice and supportive, but Julian who was mean and avoided touching August as if he would catch something. Poor Auggie had to be overwhelmed when the kids seemed to gang up on him about silly things like erasers and homeroom. Julian was rude! Smirking, teasing him about 'Jackwill', and generally mean and exclusive to poor August. Of course in the students eyes it was a huge surprise. And maybe I understand the shock but Julian should of jut kept quite, stayed nice, and showed him around nicely. Jack handled it pretty well expect when he "You can speak right." If you can stay quiet and ignore him he can do the same. Charlotte did the best! She was pretty welcoming and answered all his questions! She was kind and helpful. Over all it was difficult for Auggie but he did have support.

I agree with you Lexi, it seems like Julian is out to get him. Charlotte is being friendly and talking more openly to him than Julian or Jack Will. Also, I think Charlotte proved her loyalty and friendship to Auggie when she defended him about the erasers.

I think August was not very exited about the tour because he showed little interest and was not wanting to meet other kids yet. August is very observant though he noticed how others looked at him or felt about him such as when he said Mrs.G had a shiny or fake smile when she looked at him. The other students tried not to look at August because they were afraid of being rude.Charlotte was the nicest to August but she too avoided looking at him. I think that august probably is upset because of the way the other lids babied him when they told him things such as this is a chalkboard and this is a desk. So I think that august is nervous about this new school.

I aggree that Auggie is scared of school. It saies so in the text.

I believe that August was ignorant and in disbelief in the beginning, but ultimately had a joyous memory of the tour itself. August is introduced to this fragile prospect by his father making a humorous pun based upon his future principal's name, Mr. Tushman. in order to sustain rigor in August for learning. Auggie is reluctant to the estranged humor, yet eventually caves into in and now has a more optimistic outlook upon his new school. Although, the malicious sting of betrayal still rings true to August as he is just recuperating from the discreet perception of whisking him away from the safety of home told be his parents. Nonetheless, August arrives at school for the treacherous and controversial tour by the man himself, Mr. Tushman. August gets the impression that the principal is a decent man, but still doesn't want this boring open-house arranged by his parents. Walking down the puzzling pathways of Beecher Prep. August becomes more progressive and starts his inspection of the sensational properties of his school; such as a teacher whose name has a profane implication(Tushman). It's at this point that August is immersed into the room of the philanthropic Mrs. Garcia. At first Mrs. Garcia is completely stupefied, evident of the eyes dropping. Yet, Auggie isn't substantially offended as he notifies the reader that he's seen it happen a million times in the past. Therefore, leading the reader to believe that August is fully aware of his defects, but takes it in bliss rather than make a fuss every time someone is shocked. The adults compensate this unprofessional behavior by showing Auggie's parents how responsible they are as a school and how August will be taught a formidable curriculum with charisma! As for the children, Julian and Jack will had the same response as Mrs. Garcia yet it was a bit subtlr and difficult to discern, as least in my opinion. Charlotte on the other hand was a supportive recipient and made it her mission to show August the complex rooms of Beecher. Unfortuantely, Julian and Jack also teased him as if he was a virus, was confused on what an eraser was, Jackwill, etc. which makes the reader assume that some students aren't as happy and welcome that August's here. All of his worries were solved by Charlotte as she also took charge in making sure all the questions were answered. In the end, I think that Auggie was extremely nervous in the beginning, but found out that there was kindness and care in a place outside of his family.

I think Augusts impression is that the kids aren't really comfortable with looking at him but at the same time they are not going to bully him and be really mean to him. To answer the second question, I think Charlotte is at least trying to be friendly towards him, but Jack Will and Julian are ... not being mean but also not trying to be friendly. The text says,"Julian moved out of the way, as if he was afraid I might touch him as I passed by." I feel like this is kind of rude. All in all, I think August is not happy at first going to school, but eventually he will like it.

I think Augest's impression of his new school is that the people are just like the people on the streets. For example it said in the text "When I look up at her, Mrs. Garcia's eyes dropped for a second". Saying she had to look away and we discussed in class that it could be she just didn't want to stare but she still looked away. That just I think his impression of the new school is that the people are the same.

In Wonder August's impression of Breecher Prep is that he dosn't quite fit in but it's better than he thought it would be. Julian did secretly stare at him. But they didn't tease him or ask anything mean. Also When Jack, Charlotte, and Julian met him they looked at him then looked strait down, a gesture that Auggie is used too. All in all August's impression of Breecher Prep is that he dosn't quite fit in.

August's impression of Breecher Prep is that he dosen't really fit in but he's not the odd man out. Jack stares at him and that I think makes August a teeny bit uncomfortable but other people like Charlotte make him feel like he fits in. But they don't tease August and ask him mean questions. All in all, August feels like he dosen't fit in.

August is definitely a thinker. He doesn't really talk, but he has many conversations inside his head. I think that he hasn't much experience with children and may learn how they "work." He obviously will encounter troubles with the other kids since A. Why write the book with no real conflict and B. only 3 kids were willing to show up for his "tour."
Rebecca

In Wonder August's impression of Baker prep is that he won't quite fit in. This is because the students he meets (Charlotte, Julian, and Jack) secretly stare at him when they think he is not looking. When people meet him the y look at him and also Julian is sort of short in his answers and tense around Auggie like on the top of pg. 25. Comments are closed.
