Morning Math: Morning Math is Thursday at 7:30 am. This is an opportunity for students needing additional math support to come and ask questions and practice in a small group. No RSVP required. Just show up ready to ask questions and learn together!
Here’s what we’re working on in class this week...
Math: Monday and Tuesday were dedicated to study and assessing our most recent unit on Ratios, Rates, Proportions and Percents. We will pre-assess our next geometry based unit and do some problem solving and mathematical communication to close out the week.
Reading: As we continue our class novel The Lions of Little Rock, students will compare and contrast a fictional portrayal of a time, place, or character and a historical account of the same period by researching one of the Little Rock Nine. They will research what occurred after their year at Central High School to see how the “Lost Year” impacted them and then apply that learning to our reading through an end of week Socratic discussion.
We are also weaving our current writing unit on literary analysis into our reading by using the learned strategies into responses to chapter questions.
Writing: We are working on strategies to organize ideas, concepts, and information to support a reader’s understanding of a text. They will analyze, connect and reflect on story elements and find a balance between inserting evidence from the text and providing their own insight as they create topics for literary analysis.
Science/Social Studies: In science students will learn how processes shape the surface of Earth through the rock cycle.
In Social Studies students are completing a simulation where they must make decisions as a tribe to plan and manage workers, resources, and trade to produce sufficient resources for the survival of their tribe. Students will learn about scarcity, supply, demand and trade.
