Social Studies Presentations: On Friday morning we will be opening our classroom to visitors from other classrooms so that we can show off the research we’ve completed on the Inca, Maya, Aztec and Inuit. Parents are welcome to pop in for a viewing as well. We will be displaying our work between 8:30 and 9:45 so feel free to visit during that time Friday morning.
If your family is leaving a day or so early for break, Ms. Rogstad will still set up your child’s presentation for viewing!
By Thursday your child should have the following pieces of the project completed:
Here’s what we’re working on this week:
Math: We will wrap up our unit on solving expressions and inequalities this week. Students will have an opportunity to study for the end of unit assessment on Thursday and we will complete the end of unit assessment on Friday.
Reading: We have been working on 3 questioning strategies for close reading of nonfiction texts. Students will be applying those strategies to current event articles in preparation for a Socratic seminar discussion on our country’s role in global conflict. We will also be studying nonfiction text structures as a tool for close reading and analysis of texts.
Writing: We are drafting proposal letters for our tech challenge projects. Students are working in small groups and completing three sections: one states the problem, the next states why the problem needs our attention and the last suggests possible solutions our class can implement. In our writing we have focused on craft, elaboration and transitions to make a personal connection with the readers and inspire them to get on board with our proposals.
Science/Social Studies: Students will study for an end of unit assessment for science on atoms and molecules. The study guide will be given on Tuesday and the assessment will be on Thursday. Social studies is focused on comparing and contrasting our cultures in the past with the people who reside in those regions in the present. We're also wrapping up our presentations.
